BIOGRAPHY:
Chris Cherry graduated with an Honours Degree in Biochemistry from University College Swansea in 1993. The following five years were spent at Therapeutic Antibodies Ltd, later Protherics and BTG. Chris started work in the pilot plant facility aseptically manufacturing (cGMP) ovine derived immunotherapies before moving on to process development and validation. Here he worked on chromatography, filtration and other critical processes and their validation. Chris then moved to Cuno Ltd, a manufacturer of pharmaceutical filtration products. Here he provided support and process development to FDA and MHRA approved customers across Europe. Following this a move to MicroPharm Ltd enabled him to set up a £750K state-of-the-art filling and manufacturing clean room facility. Using isolator technology, the facility is now MHRA approved and immunotherapies are being manufactured and filled aseptically for use internationally. Chris has recently also worked for the HPA at Porton Down managing downstream processing of Erwinase.
Currently, Chris is undertaking a PhD at PDR in partnership with MicroPharm Ltd, a small manufacturer of ovine derived immunotherapies. These immunotherapies are used for the treatment of life threatening acute toxic events such as envenomation or poisonings.
Chris’ PhD is funded by the Welsh European Funding Office via a Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarship (KESS) award. The scope of the PhD is “The design and development of a novel system for sterile freeze drying of small batch samples of aqueous solutions”.
