PDR Welcomes two newcomers to the team

January 12, 2011

PDR is pleased to announce two new members to our team; Peter Dorrington and Sean Peel. Placed within the Medical Applications Group (MAG), the design duo will help to strengthen and grow the capabilities within this highly important and growing sector. Both team members will be contributing to PDR’s Patient-Specific Medical Device Knowledge Transfer Centre. This Centre aligns the needs of clinicians, patients and health services with those of manufacturing companies wishing to develop medical devices. Our use of advanced manufacturing technologies coupled with cutting-edge research provides a full range of design and engineering support.

PETER DORRINGTON (Technology Translator)
Peter Dorrington joined PDR as Technology Translator for our new Centre for patient-specific medical product development (within the Medical Applications Group). This centre has been created to improve the links between the clinical need and physical device creation for patient-specific products. Having completed his undergraduate degree in Product Design Peter spent a number of years in industry as a design engineer. Further work as Research Officer with the Manufacturing Advisory Service followed, before being awarded an EPSRC doctoral training grant to study at Cardiff Business School. Peter’s doctoral studies investigate how aspects of innovation management influence the success of emerging technologies in different organisational settings.

SEAN PEEL: (Medical Applications Research Technician)
Sean Peel graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Industrial Design & Technology and has joined PDR in the role of Medical Applications Research Technician for the new Patient Specific Design Centre. Sean will be using his knowledge and experience of design and prototyping to adapt additive manufacturing processes for the production of medical devices tailored to specific patient's individual anatomical requirements.
