July 15, 2010

The first ‘CARTIS Forum’ was held on the 15th July at Morriston Hospital's Post Graduate Centre.  A report from the event will be posted shortly

CARTIS BACKGROUND:  CARTIS is a unique partnership that aims to make Wales a world-leader in the research, development and application of advanced medical technologies in surgery.

The Centre for Applied Reconstructive Technologies in Surgery (CARTIS) has been jointly established by Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board's Maxillofacial Unit at Morriston Hospital and the National Centre for Product Design & Development Research (PDR) at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC).

CARTIS was launched on the 9th February 2006 after many years of successful collaboration between PDR and Morriston Hospital. The partnership combines the medical and technical expertise of both partners to effectively transfer the latest advanced digital technologies, such as 3D scanning, computer-aided design, computer-aided planning, rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing technologies to complex medical applications used in reconstructive surgery and prosthetic rehabilitation.
