PDR HAVE BEEN AWARDED AN IF DESIGN AWARD FOR ITS INVOLVEMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SAFECEPS™, A 21ST CENTURY ADAPTATION OF THE OBSTETRIC FORCEPS. PDR WILL BE ATTENDING THE IF AWARD CEREMONY ON MARCH 2ND 2010 WHERE THEY WILL ALSO BE ATTENDING THE CEBIT EXHIBITION IN HANNOVER, GERMANY. PRO Medical Innovation, A Cardiff based venture chose to employ the services of PDR (The National centre for Product Design & Development Research) to produce its latest version of the product. The Safeceps™ are a modern-day plastic adaptation of the traditional obstetric forceps. The product encompasses a number of patented technologies which allow for the categorical measurement of traction and compressive force exerted upon the fetal head during instrumental delivery. The Safeceps™ are used in conjunction with a monitoring software system (called the SafeGuard™) which visualises and records the measurement data in real-time changing a subjective operation to a systematic and evidenced based procedure. Over 12% of all births in the developed world require assistance from clinicians, a figure far higher in developing countries. The obstetric forceps, a key tool for clinicians, has remained largely unchanged since the 16th century. Developed by practicing clinicians, Safeceps™ revolutionises obstetric care with greatly improved functionality, ease of use and ergonomics. The product remains familiar to users whilst transforming a subjective operation through intelligence of real time feedback of traction and compressive forces placed on the child during birth, greatly improving safety and reassurance to the doctor, mother and child. |
