Lung disease is a major cause of premature death around the world. In a bid to heighten awareness surrounding this technology and market opportunity Haemair contracted PDR to explore the creation of early stage prototyping and to visualise how this technology might one day manifest.

The Helu concept is the articulation of these laboratory trials and prototype units into an end user product that allows the lung function to be performed in a robust, reliable and portable way negating, the need for oxygen tanks, facemasks and nebulised medicines.

Technology application is proven and market availability is hoped to be within the next 3-4 years. A new lung that can revolutionise millions of lives.

The device is an external respiratory aid that creates mobile, active patients and can either supplement or even completely replace their existing lung function.

Once fitted the device may be worn by users for various periods of time dependent on the condition and recovery capability of their own lungs.

The filter cartridge can be easily replaced in a clinical environment after a prescribed number of hours or when the efficiency of gas transfer has decreased to a set level.
