The Anglesey Sea Salt Company combine traditional methods with the latest technology to harvest Halen Môn (100% natural Welsh sea salt) from the fresh Atlantic waters that surround the Isle of Anglesey.

The company approached PDR with a requirement for a small sea salt package for single table servings with demanding technical constraints.

Exploring traditional solutions an alternate approach was taken in the provision of small portions of salt/seasoning to the end user and an exploration of the ritual, values and experience of the salt and food seasoning.

A porcelain body, placed in the centre of the table is charged before each sitting with large crystal sea salt. Diners can remove individual flakes by hand or use the large stainless steel ball to crush the flakes down to a chosen size before taking a pinch of salt with their fingers and seasoning their food appropriately.

The physical interaction with the product and the emphasis on experiencing the smell, texture and ritual of an age old activity is encouraged in the design and provides a neat solution to the problem of small scale packaging of delicate crystals.

The final phase of the project was the photo shoot that was undertaken by the PDR design team creating stunning, atmospheric images.
